Katie’s wishes comes true
19 December 2007
CHRISTMAS came early for little Katie Creegan when her all dreams came true thanks to the wonderful Make a Wish Foundation. A surprise nomination from one of Katie’s carers to the charity which grants wishes to children fighting life-threatening illnesses meant that the four-year-old had a day to remember on Tuesday.

Little Katie from Creggan, who is living with a respiratory disorder, began her special day when she and mum Patricia were whisked away in a stretch limousine to the Tir na Og hair and beauty salon in Crossmaglen for a VIP makeover.

After that, it was a short and very smooth ride to Smyth’s Toy Store in Newry where Katie was allowed to pick a whole selection of goodies to take home. Hardly able to contain her excitement, the smile on this courageous girl’s face as she grappled with the biggest box she could carry would have melted the heart of any Scrooge.

Then it was on to the Canal Court Hotel where a special reservation had been made for Katie and Patricia so they could enjoy a lovely meal together. But it was when Katie arrived home to Trainor Crescent that the real surprise came for there, in her own back yard, was the one thing she was wishing for a giant twostorey play cabin complete with carpet, fairy lights, chairs, a table and lots of toys and accessories.

“It was brilliant,” said Patricia. “This is the first Christmas Katie hasn’t been sick she deserves every bit of it.” Make-A-Wish volunteer Breige Morgan said: “I would like to thank everyone involved in making Katie’s wish so successful.

As a charity we could not possibly continue to grant children with life-threatening illness their wishes without the generous support of the local people.” Last year Make-A-Wish NI granted 35 wishes and hopes to reach 50 by the end of 2007.

It has recently launched a fresh recruitment drive in the North and is opening its books once again to anyone interested in becoming a volunteer and helping to grant more magical wishes.
