SEVERE flooding has caused havoc for motorists in the Warrenpoint Road area of Newry. The road was partially closed on Thursday and Friday, with Newry-bound traffic being diverted via the Mound Road and the Greenan Road, while vehicles heading for Warrenpoint were limited to the hard shoulder and the inside lane.
It is understood that several vehicles, including at least one lorry, became stuck in the flood. Meanwhile, water supplies in the Kilkeel and Rostrevor areas were affected on Wednesday afternoon as a result of a burst pipe.
The fault was repaired within hours, a spokesman for the Department for Regional Development confirmed.
