Tourism chiefs visit adventure centre
19 October 2005
Pictured during their recent familiarisation trip to Carlingford and Cooley are Kevin Kidney, newly appointed chief executive of East Coast Midlands and Simon Gregory, director of the Britain office of Tourism Ireland, who received a warm welcome from Tom McArdle and Ciara Murphy of Carlingford Adventure Centre.

Kevin and Simon were accompanied by Gertrude Malone town guide and Harry Mc Carthy Chairman of Cooley/Carlingford Tourism Association. Gertrude and Harry escorted them on a guided walking tour of the medieval buildings and tourism attractions in the village.

Carlingford was looking its best as there was glorious sunshine and the combination of the Lough and Slieve Foy mountain made a spectacular setting. Kevin and Simon then visited Tom and Ciara at the Carlingford Adventure Centre and were shown around all the land and water facilities.

They also went on a tour of Cooley taking in Omeath, Long Womans Grave and the Flagstaff. Both Simon and Kevin then went for afternoon tea at the new Four Seasons Hotel and proceeded to the Ballymacscanlon Hotel and met up with Louth Hospitality chairman Paul Mathews and Director Chris Broyden along with Cllr Terry Brennan. Kevin and Simon were very impressed with their whirlwind tour of Cooley and Carlinford and Kevin promised to come back and meet with more Tourism providers and stay for a longer period.

He explained that major changes are taking place in the Tourism Regional Organisations and he is looking forward to working closer with all Tourism providers in the region.
