Seasonal workers 'must watch pay-levels'
22 August 2005

Seasonal workers who are employed over the summer may not be receiving the correct rates of pay, warns Newry Citizens Advice, which operates the National Minimum Wage Helpline.

Citizens Advice have been running an awareness campaign throughout the summer and urging seasonal workers to contact the helpline if they require information or assistance.

With the holiday season in full swing, many companies traditionally employ extra staff to help cope with busy periods or to cover the annual leave of other staff members.

This is good news for those wishing to earn a few extra pounds, however the message from the National Minimum Wage Helpline, is to make sure you are being treated fairly by your employer.

Since its introduction in 2001, the helpline has assisted in identifying over £1.8million of arrears due to low paid workers in Northern Ireland.

Anyone who requires further information or suspects that they are not being paid correctly can contact the helpline on 0845 6500 207, for confidential and impartial advice.
